At this year’s PVC Formulation 2025 conference, Ole Grøndahl Hansen, Project Leader of the newly established VinylPlus Healthcare, presented the latest research and vision for a more circular healthcare economy.
A new study by Spanish technical institute AIMPLAS demonstrates that flexible polyvinyl chloride, known as vinyl or PVC, used in medical devices can be mechanically recycled up to six times without significant quality loss. This breakthrough confirms the potential of vinyl to reduce waste and improve resource efficiency.
Alongside the study results, Ole Grøndahl Hansen introduced VinylPlus Healthcare, a new platform bringing together the whole medical vinyl value chain – from medical devices over hospital infrastructure to rescue gear and other healthcare-related applications. The initiative is designed to strengthen collaboration and communication on the role of PVC in healthcare, with a clear focus on science, sustainability, and innovation.
Joining VinylPlus Healthcare means becoming part of an innovative value chain that offers advocacy, a strong network of hospitals and recyclers, and policy support.
VinylPlus Healthcare sends a strong signal that the vinyl industry is committed to advancing a more sustainable healthcare system.
